“Gravedigger, when you dig my grave, can you make it shallow so I can feel the rain’

May 21st, 2009

” Gravedigger, when you dig my grave can you make it shallow so I can feel the rain”. Words that touch me. Words that make me aware of what it is to have touch and to feel the ache of it’s absence. You might well ask what in hells name has this got to do with photography. Nothing really except of course that the images I make are a reflection of my own humanity and being. Uniquely my view and record of the world as I see it and my ever present excuse and reason to SHOW UP. I wonder why you show and what you show up for? Maybe you don’t and life just passes you by.

When I read the gravedigger words I can feel the rain on my skin and the all the noise of my world and my life seem to matter little. I find the peace of NO MIND that Osho tried to teach me and for a moment I am blissfully aware of life and it’s purpose. Purpose has nothing to do with career or with work or with money. We come into this world alone and we leave alone and each one of us in our different way choose the life we lead. My experience is that the majority have little understanding of life’s purpose and remain blissfully unaware. He who looks outside dreams and he looks inside awakens.

This morning I have been looking through my pictures and the pictures of my son Peter in preparation for our joint exhibition at the BRIGHTLIFE gallery outside Dublin in Greystones County Wicklow, Ireland. I see in the pictures 2 beautiful souls each uniquely expressing their love of what they see and being skilled enough to manifest the feeling in the images seen here on the pages of this and our other web sites.
